Exploration 9 of 10 - Village Walk

One of the great highlights of my journey so far has been the opportunity to travel with Deepak and Yves as they explored several local villages. Their intent is to document Buddhist areas, using kite photography when possible, and to educate the villagers regarding the importance of keeping the heritage.

On this day, 24 March 2011, we traveled to many villages near the Phalgu River. Unfortunately, my Hindi isn’t strong enough to remember all of the names of the different villages, so they will have to remain unnamed until I can get clarification from the experts! As I took nearly 400 photos---thanks to my little digital camera---I have decided to narrow down the selection for my blog. What follows are many blogs (Exploration) of the same day, with pictures and events from the many different villages.

I hope that I have more opportunities to explore further.

Yves and I headed back into the village to try and find Deepak, and the villagers followed us. Along the way, everyone wanted their picture taken, so Yves and I “took turns” snapping photos of the lovely women and children. Halfway along the path we were following, we came upon a wonderful Hindu shrine with a Buddhist stupa and small little Buddha stone carvings. We came to the edge of the village and could see the field where Yves had been flying his kite, so we decided to turn around and head back to the vehicle.

Turning down one path, I was stopped by a woman who wanted me to take her family’s picture. Unfortunately, the minute the camera was pointed, everyone wanted to be in the picture. The woman tried to shoo away several children standing now in front of her sitting mother, to no avail. Her mother stood and once again I tried to take their picture!

Back at the vehicle, we caught up with Deepak, who introduced us to the village leader, Deepak, who had some interesting artifacts to show us.
